Lindsay Carmichael is a freelance illustrator and artist living in the North-east of England. "Hello, my name is Lindsay and I was born in Middlesbrough in the early 70's. I spent a lot of my childhood drawing pictures. Following school I studied Art & Design at Cleveland College and graduated 1st class (Hons) from the University of Northumbria in Fine Arts. During my time at university I enjoyed experimenting with many different art styles and mediums - everything from oil paint to bronze casting - even a bit of upholstery and welding!
After working for Watertsone's Children's book department (where I would idle away the hours looking at the most beautifully illustrated ones) I became a primary school teacher, spending ten years sharing art, education and books with small people. During this period I maintained my passion for art by exhibiting and winning prizes in events such as the Journal People Show and the Cleveland Open Art competition. I also successfully completed my biggest project to date - the designing, sketching and illustrating of a four walled mural for a newly commissioned library space. Approximately the size of two school classrooms I chose a natural world theme to provide colour, knowledge and interest for the users of the facility. I have since repeated this activity for retail businesses seeking something extra special for their premises and customers. I am now working full-time as a freelance illustrator and artist and would love to be involved in your projects."
